Chairman of The Trades Union Congress ( TUC) has responded to President Mahama’s comments that he will not spend out of budget in order to satisfy the Ghana Medical Association’s demands for better conditions of service.

The TUC Chairman, Kofi Asamoah said comments made by President John Mahama in regards to the doctors strike is unacceptable
The president asserted that if government succumbs to the demands of the GMA a snowballing effect will occur with all labor unions making their own demands as well, something the budget cannot support.
“I will not support any salary demand which is outside of the 2015 budget” the president declared in an address at the 80 anniversary of the Ghana Midwives Association on Wednesday.
This has sparked all kinds of responses from the labour front.

The Chairman of the Trades Union Congress, Kofi Asamoah has described the president’s comments as an unacceptable. In an interview with Citi Fm’s, Richard Sky on the Eye Witness news, the TUC boss criticized the president for addressing such concerns in public, instead of the negotiation table.
“I don’t think that is what it should be. You should go to the negotiation table. The president’s comment will not help. In terms of negotiations, it is neither here nor there” he said.
On the president’s specific comment that he will not approve any expenditure on wages outside the 2015 budget, Kofi Asamoah said “ it is unacceptable. Such comments when negotiations are on- going is unacceptable and unfair”.
The chairman, however, echoed pleas from organized labour for the GMA and other unions to go back to work while negotiations continue.
