Kufuor calls for investigation into huge salary at COCOBOD

A Former President Kufuor has called for investigations into the salary paid to some Chief Executives of the State Owned Enterprises (SOE) in the country.

In an interview with Accra-based Top FM, former president Kufuor said Ghanaians should not jump into conclusion without a proper investigation into the said issue.

“Corruption is high in the country because employers cheat employees in Ghana, so my point is that the fat salary given to someone should not be an issue, for now, let’s investigate those issues to find out if the nation benefited from them or not. Then we can also find out if the salary was realistic or not, we should not jump to conclusions without proper investigations.”

The former president’s call follows the revelation by the newly sworn-in Board Chairman of COCOBOD Hackman Owusu Agyemang that former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company Dr Stephen Opuni earned GH¢75,000 monthly salary.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang said he will ensure thatsalaries of COBOBOD’s top management are slashed by 50%.

According to him, in spite of plans to slash salaries, some top managers of COCOBOD will still earn more than the president and other Article 71 office holders which are pegged around GH¢22,000.
