GIPC wins best Project in West & Central Africa Region

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has been awarded the best Project in West and Central Africa Region for 2016 at the Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) 2017 in Dubai.

Chief Executive Officer of the GIPC, Mr. Yofi Grant received the award on behalf of the angecy during the Investment Award Gala Dinner held on Sunday 2nd of April 2017 at Armani Hotel in Burj Khalifa, Dubai from the UAE Minister of Economy H.E Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori.

The award was won after GIPC had met all the criteria provided after showcasing the Rotan Power Project.

A joint venture owned both Singaporean and Ghanaian partners, the project was a 660MW thermal power upload to generate power at Aboadze in the Western region.

Some of the criteria for acceptance of the projects included technology transfer and innovative processes, submissions investment project, investment size, trade balance effects, knowledge transfer, sustainability and local linkages.

The award also recognized Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) for their outstanding work in successfully attracting sizable and beneficial foreign direct investment projects that contribute to the national economic growth and development of their countries.

This is not the first time the GIPC is being commended for their work as they were adjudged the Best Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) in West and Central Africa  for 2015 at the same event.

The seventh edition of the AIM, the year’s event is being held from April 2-4, 2017 under of the leadership of Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.

This year’s ceremony is themed, ‘‘International Investment, Path to Competitiveness & Development’ is to empower young economies, attract international investment and increase competitiveness.

The conference is being attended by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in collaboration with the Ghana Free Zones Board (GFZB). They are working tirelessly through fairs, exhibitions and interactions with business moguls to showcase Ghana at the international front.
