How Ryan Seacrest went from local radio DJ to one of the most famous TV hosts ever

Ryan Seacrest has long been known as a man with many, many jobs. And it was just announced Monday morning that he's accepted yet another one: He's now the cohost of "Live" on ABC with Kelly Ripa.

Seacrest first gained recognition as the host of the hit reality competition show "American Idol," but before doing work on camera he already had a famous radio show in Los Angeles. You can also catch him on the red carpet on behalf of E! before pretty much any big, celebrity-filled event.

Ryan Seacrest was born in 1974 in Atlanta. He knew he wanted to work in radio from an early age.

Seacrest went to the University of Georgia. While he was in college, he interned at a local radio station where he got his first job in radio.

In the mid-'90s, Seacrest moved to Los Angeles, where he started "Ryan Seacrest for the Ride Home," an afternoon radio show that became quite popular. The show lasted until 2004.

In 2002, he gained some visibility when he became the host of Fox's hit reality television show "American Idol." He hosted until the end of the show's run in 2016.

In 2003, he started another radio show based in LA, called "On Air with Ryan Seacrest," which still runs to this day.

In 2004, the man with many jobs started yet another radio show called "American Top 40," which also runs to this day.

His gig at "American Idol" helped him get some high-profile TV hosting gigs for events, and he became the host for E! News and an E! red carpet correspondent. Seacrest still works the E! red carpet.

In 2005, Seacrest became a cohost alongside Dick Clark for "New Year's Rockin' Eve" on ABC. When Clark passed away in 2012, Seacrest took over as the sole host.

He's been an executive producer on "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" since the show premiered on E! in 2007.

In 2007, he played a fictionalized and hilarious version of himself in the hit comedy movie "Knocked Up."

In 2010, he won an Emmy for outstanding reality program for "Food Revolution," which he executive produced.

He also produces other TV shows including NBC's "Shades of Blue."

Seacrest has dated some celebrities, including Teri Hatcher and Julianne Hough.

Seacrest was a correspondent for NBC at the London 2012 Olympics and the Rio 2016 Olympics.

In Rio, he hosted a late-night show called " target="_blank"Olypmic Late Night."

In May 2017, Kelly Ripa announced she had a new cohost for her "Live" daytime talk show in Ryan Seacrest. He's replacing host Michael Strahan, who left to join "Good Morning America" in 2016.
