Cocoa Processing Company shuts down two factories
The company comprises three factories: two Cocoa Factories and a Confectionery Factory.
In a circular to staff members, CPC said "due to operational challenges, Management has decided to temporarily shut down the two cocoa factories from Monday, 25th January 2016 until further notice."
The Public Relation Officer of the company, Ekow Rhule told Joy News the shut down is not related to the power crisis but because of unavailability of cocoa beans.
He also added that the shut down was to allow for routine maintenance works.
The worker’s union chairman Kingsley Owusu also told Joy news lack of cocoa beans triggered the shutdown.
In the 2011/2012 operational year, the company was forced to shut down intermittently due to the power crisis. The company also missed its production target that year.
