The Akropong Magistrate Court has remanded the Physical Education (PE) teacher of Mpasatia Senior High Technical School in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti region for raping a student.
The teacher whose name was given as Alex Akwasi Sarpong is 34 years.
The teacher was arrested by Police at Nkawie and charged with the crime after the student reported the case.

According to Kumasi-based Ultimate FM, the victim has reportedly left the school over fears of being victimized by other teachers.
The Head of Legal and Prosecution at the Atwima Division of the Police Service, ASP Sylvanus Dalmeida, confirmed that the case will be up again in court on March 8, 2018.
“Yes, we had a case of rape against one Alex Akwasi Sarpong, a tutor at Mpasatia Senior High School Technical School which has been processed for court. It is now with the Akropong Magistrate Court. He was charged with raping a 17-year-old student.”
On the condition of the victim, he said, “the victim’s condition is better now, she has been visiting the hospital for review according to a medical programme drawn for her.”

However, the headmistress of the school, Helen Techie Mensah, said she does not know the condition of the student since the incident happened.
“At the moment we don’t know the where about of the victim who is my student. she has packed out from the school, and we can’t also locate her family as well,’’ she said.
