NDP nomination errors shoot up

According to the NDP, the EC has asked that party should “produce 33 persons from almost every region in the country to verify their signatures before the EC.”

The NDP in a press statement signed by the party’s General Secretary Mohammed Frimpong described this development as ‘unfair’ and ‘absurd’.

They mentioned that the EC ‘wasted’ close to five hours after the Supreme Court’s ruling to allow them to correct the errors on their forms.

On October 10, 2016, the EC said it could not accept the nomination forms of the NDP’s presidential candidate because the number of subscribers on her forms did not meet the requirements of Regulation (2) (b) of CI 94.

It added that on page 89 of the forms, one of the subscribers had illegally registered twice as a voter.

The NDP then suggested that they believe the EC is deliberately trying to disqualify them from the 2016 presidential election.

The EC’s directive comes hours after the Supreme Court on Monday asked the election management body to extend the nomination period to November 8 and allow the candidates to correct their mistakes in order to contest the polls.

The court also ordered the discontinuation of the various court cases regarding the disqualification of other presidential aspirants.
