Akoto's transfer take aways

The 2016 summer transfer window has closed. Here are take aways from Pulse.com.gh editor Godfred Akoto Boafo.

Not everyday is  Christmas for Ghanaian players

The last transfer season was a good one for Ghana as Baba Rahman gave us a lot to write and scream about with his mega money move from Augsburg to then English champions Chelsea. Bernard Mensah shocked the world with a move to Spanish staple Atletico Madrid and the Ayew brothers added to the joy of the occasion. Not so this season. Rahman has been sent on loan to Schalke, Christian Atsu is on another loan stint with Newcastle, Bernard Mensah is back in Portugal on loan whilst Albert Adomah has been sent to Aston Villa from Middlesborough and I could go on and on. But you get my point. This transfer window could not have ended quickly enough for us on this side of the continent.

Africa is a big winner this window

A host of African players earned big money moves this window giving proof that African football's conveyor belt of talent is still in fantastic shape. Islam Slimani's 27m pound move from Sporting Lisbon to Leicester City, Ahmed Musa to the same club for 16m, Didier Ndong to Sunderland and Eric Bailly's robust start to life as a Manchester United player are brilliant advertisement for the talent that the continent possesses.

English clubs still get ripped off

It would not be a transfer window if English clubs are not ripped off by the rest of the world after spending over a billion pounds on transfers this window. Manchester United will be the poster child for "Ripped off" after they paid 110m for Paul Pogba. Several Premier league clubs have paid ridiculous sums for mid-tier talent but who cares right? They have the money to burn and the rest of the world knows it.

Asamoah Gyan and the mystery of the failed medical

What was supposed to be a routine transfer to Reading for Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan turned into one of the biggest side stories of the transfer window. Getreading.co.uk became the villains of the story after reporting Gyan had failed his medical, a suggestion roundly rejected by the player and his team who went full hog via social media and other news channels to deny it after which he signed for Emirati outfit Al Ahli Dubai .We will never know the truth behind the mystery of the Reading medical but boy it sure made for great news.

Balotelli gets another chance to be relevant or an idiot

It will be a waste of time to go into just how low Mario Balotelli has fallen from the pedestals of superstardom. The player who was once tipped to win several Balon d'Ors was shopped around but very few elite clubs were willing to take a chance on the Italian's brand of mad genius. French side OGC Nice is his latest opportunity and Lucien Favre is as good a man to rebuild a career with. Hopefully Balotelli grabs his chance.
