Why Wa All Stars will win the league

Wa All Stars at this stage have their destiny in their hands, with three games to end the season. They are leading the pack with 48 points, with Aduana Stars second with 45 points, while Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are tied on 42 points.

There are nine points at stake in the final three games, and if Wa All Stars secure six points, they are the league champions irrespective of results from other games.

The strength of Wa All Stars is a clear indication that they can make it happen looking at their upcoming fixtures vis a vis that of the other contenders. They are also on a good run of form heading into the closing stages. They can even win the league title before the last round of matches to prevent the title race going down to the wire.

On match day 28, Wa All Stars will make a trip to Dansoman to face Liberty Professionals, who have won just a game in the entire second round. A determined All Stars side will give the Scientific Soccer lads a cause to worry about heading into the match.

Wa All Stars' crucial tie is the one against Aduana Stars, which is a six-pointer since they stand the chance to gain three points and deny their closest competitor three points in the process.

Wa All Stars will draw the curtains down on the season in an away fixture against relegation-threatened Sekondi Hasaacas on match day 30.

All Stars can play comfortably at the Essipong Sports Stadium and condemn the ‘Giants of the West’ to relegation on a good day.

This season is the biggest opportunity for Wa All Stars, who made their maiden top-flight appearance in the 2007-08 season to lay their hands on the Ghana Premier League trophy for the first time. There is no better opportunity to do that than this, and I believe they will curse their stars if it slips through their hands.

The Ghana Premier League team would become the first team from the three Northern zones (Upper West, Upper East and Northern region) to win a league title if they don’t lose guard and get things right in the last three games of the season. A feat that RTU in their heydays would envy to attain.

The chances of the competitors of Wa All Stars are very slim in their quest to clinch the league title.

Asante Kotoko are struggling to churn out the results, having drawn their last three games. On paper, it seems it might be difficult for them to turn things around by winning their final three games of the season. Kotoko have a date with Medeama at Tarkwa on match day 28, before they travel to Obuasi to take on Ashanti Gold and complete the season against sensational WAFA in Kumasi.

Hearts of Oak’s title chase suffered a major setback when they drew at home against Inter Allies and subsequently lost heavily to Bechem United on match day 29 to trail the league leaders Wa All Stars by six points.

Hearts of Oak have two home league games and an away game to play. They will host wounded Ebusua Dwarfs, who have suffered back to back home defeats and are hoping to make amends when they face Hearts of Oak, who are not impressive in Accra.

Hearts of Oak will again welcome Medeama on match day 29, which is expected to be tricky unless there are some underground dealings and end the season with a game against New Edubiase United, who have already conceded relegation, with three matches to go.
