EC to begin re-registration of 'NHIS voters' from July 18

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Samuel Tettey, the Director of Electoral Services said affected persons must report to the district offices of the EC from July 18 to 28 of the same month for re-registration.

The Electoral Commission has announced that it will organise the re-registration of the affected NHIS card registrants at various district offices from 18 July to the 28 of the same month.

The move is in line with the Supreme Court's ruling on May 5 where the EC was ordered to delete the voters' register of minors, NHIS card holders and dead people.

"If you get to the district offices, it is not a straight forward registration, you have to prove your eligibility," including proof of nationality, 18 years of age, proof of sound mind, resident in the particular area, passport and two guarantors.

According to him, the Electoral Commission (EC) will on Friday, July 15, 2016, publish in the national dailies the names of over 56000 National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card registrants after it deleted their names from the electoral roll in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.

He said apart from the dailies, the deleted names will be published in the district offices, as well as the Municipal, District, Metropolitan assemblies.

“District officers have been instructed to paste all the lists in their districts at the district offices of the commission, so they are to publish the list in all affected areas,” Samuel Tettey added.

He added that there will be data processing in preparation of the provisional register for persons who have re-registered from the July 29 to August 2.

The provisional voters’ register will be exhibited from August 5 to 7 of the same month, he said.
